Chapter Seventeen

Leslie rolled off Megan and out of bed. “Jesus Christ, woman. You do damn good with a busted leg. I bet you’re a firecracker when you’re in top condition.”

Megan pulled the covers over her naked body. “I do okay.” She admired Leslie’s lean body as Leslie walked over to the dresser and pulled a pack of cigarettes out of her bag. “You can’t smoke in here.”

Leslie shrugged. “Fine. I’ll go to the balcony.” She grinned and walked out of the bedroom.

Megan scrambled out of bed and pulled on a shirt and underwear. “Put some damn clothes on first.” She couldn’t believe Elise would willingly give up a lay like Leslie Greer. When she stepped onto the balcony, she sniffed. “What the fuck? I’m a cop and you’re smoking a joint?”

“Got your handcuffs with you?” Leslie laughed. “Arrest me. It’ll be great foreplay for round two.” She sat back and stretched out her legs. “It’ll be legal next week.”

“Not until January. Until then, it’s illegal.”

Leslie rolled her eyes. “Well, fuck, that’s a bummer. I thought you were going to be cool, but you’re just like all the rest of the tight asses.”

Megan studied Leslie, then took the joint out of her hand, took a long drag, held it, blew out a stream of pungent smoke, then passed it back. “So, you really want to get your girlfriend back?”

“What the hell kind of question is that to ask right after we fucked?”

Megan lifted a shoulder in a half shrug. “Just wondering. Is she that damn good in bed?”

Leslie smirked. “Hell no. I can find a good fuck anywhere. She’s got other assets that hold my interest.”

Megan took the joint from Leslie and took another hit. “You mean all that money she inherited from her daddy?”

Leslie shot a glance at Megan. “How the hell do you know about that?”

Megan shrugged. “I’m a detective. I did a little background work on Elise Carlyle a few days ago.”

“A few days ago?” Leslie was suddenly suspicious. “Hold on a damn minute. You said you came to see me today about the argument El and I had last night. Why were you doing a background check on her a few days ago?” Paranoia began to set in. “Who the hell are you?”

“Relax. Remember I told you that me and my partner split, too?”

“Yeah, so?”

Megan took the joint from Leslie, took a drag, and passed it back. “Well, your ex and my ex are currently fuck buddies.”

“What the fuck?” Leslie surged out of the chair. “You lied to me.”

“No, I didn’t.” Megan waved her off. “Sit the hell down.”

Megan turned and grinned. “I did not ask you one single question about your encounter last night. You assumed that was why I came to see you and offered that information to me freely and willingly.”

“Bitch.” Leslie stubbed out the joint and stormed back inside.

Megan sighed and followed Leslie to the bedroom. “Look. You want your girlfriend back, I want my girlfriend back. I just thought it might be a lot easier if we worked together to break’m up, then we both get what we want.
